Why you’ll love this…
  • Tyrrhenian Sea cruise
  • Free time in San Vincenzo
  • Circumnavigate the island of Stromboli and volcano
  • Possibility of witnessing night-time eruptions
What to expect

Life on Stromboli is dominated by the active volcano that gives the island its name. Cruise over from Tropea and you'll spend the afternoon exploring the village of San Vincenzo before trying to catch the ‘Sciara del fuoco' explosions against the night sky.

After sailing into the Tyrrhenian Sea, Stromboli will rise up before you in the early afternoon light. Dock at San Vincenzo and you'll have free time to explore its collection of whitewashed houses on a slope dominated by St Vincent's church. The church boasts great views of the jagged sea stack of Strombolicchio, with its white lighthouse.

As evening sets in, board your boat and circumnavigate Stromboli. With luck, you'll witness the natural extravaganza that is the Sciara del fuoco – ‘Stream of fire' – that lights up the Stromboli night.

Brilliant night cruise around Stromboli. Be prepared for a long time at sea but worth it. Stopped off first at one of the nearby islands which was really nice for food and drink then as dusk fell a trip over to Stromboli to witness the fireworks at night, memorable. Only negative was the the guide had a lot of talking to do, most of which in Italian then German and then a lil English. Didn’t ruin the experience just didn’t fully hear what they had to say due mainly to folk chatting over her.

I booked via the TUI app with no print option and needed a print out for the boat ticket. App information did not explain this trip was run by a third party (we expected a TUI Rep present). Otherwise fab trip once we'd sorted out our boat ticket issue!

As stated no assistance or explanations. Italian and German tourists had guides explaining we had nothing. We had a good time only because we made it so. We were lucky enough to see a whale which was amazing but apart from being dropped off at the boat ( which we could have gone on the courtesy bus) TUI did nothing for us. How the s can be sold as a TUI trip which cost £120 is beyond us

The boat trip is very long, so if you are prone to sea sickness this not for you. The crew are friendly but speak limited English. The commentary was mainly Italian & German with a brief description in English. The island, it self there is isn’t much to see, however the view from restaurant near the church is beautiful. The volcano didn’t play ball a few small eruptions nothing spectacular. Journey back was not good especially on the upper decks where you got wet. No room in the lower deck. ??

Need TUI staff at reception to sort out excursions - lots of people and lots of coaches. Same for return journey. We were very much left to fend for ourselves on the trip.
