Constructed from 1904 to 1910, the new interiors boasted carved fireplaces, frescos and Venetian-glass mosaics. Perched into a hillside, the millionare’s estate was erected in the neo-Manueline style, reviving the forms of late-Gothic architecture in Portugal with the help of stonemasons from Coimbra.
