Att göra – Pompejis ruiner
Som ett erkänt UNESCO arv sedan 1997 behöver den antika romerska staden Pompeji ingen introduktion. Begravd under ett lager av vulkanisk aska och pimpsten erbjuder dess detaljerade arkeologiska utgrävningar en intim titt på det romerska livet - samtidigt som det är en varnande berättelse om att leva bredvid en vulkan.
Innan allsmäktige Vesuvius blåste sin topp i 79 e.Kr, var Pompeji ett rikt kommersiellt nav hem till mer än 10.000 invånare, med ett tätt nätverk av bostadshus, butiker och nöjesanläggningar som inkluderade en amfiteater, flera termiska spa och en bordell. Medan en del av det fortfarande är begravd, har de flesta upptäckts fantastiskt bevarat.
Domenico Fontana upptäckte av misstag den förlorade staden 1594 när han grävde en tunnel, men det var först 1748 som riktig utgrävning påbörjades. Flytande gips användes för att ta plats i organiskt material (inklusive mänskliga kroppar) för att skapa känslomässigt fyllda scener. Från forumet, centrum för det politiska och sociala livet i staden till dämpade fresker eller klottrade graffiti på väggarna, hittar du bevis på en komplex modern kultur tillsammans med gripande detaljer som berättar en mycket mänsklig historia.

“We were so excited for this trip, unfortunately it didn't live up to our expectations and on reflection we should have chosen a different experience. The tour was a whirlwind stop which didn't give enough time to properly see the site and its treasures. Our guide was a very nice lady with lots of knowledge, but we just didn't get enough time, and it was so busy it felt like we were rushing from one place to another trying not to bump into other groups and keep up with our guide. Disappointing.”
“2 hour pomeii part didn't see much at all. Maybe because it was a busy Sunday. But the entrance we used was just seeing 2 kitchens, baths and a court yard. The lunch took 1hour and 30mins. 1 hour waiting. Then eventually made it to Mount Vesuvius at 2.35pm. But the tour guide said be back down at 4pm. It takes 30mins up and 30mins down. Felt like we had 10-15mins on top. I wouldn't recommend this package. I would recommend 2 days seperate for both areas. At least then you can do more in pomeii”
