Unfortunately for us, although Tim was lovely, the scramble up to the first stop was too much. My companion has had an ankle operation and although now fine really worried about it becoming unstable again. I'm sure the rest of the walk would have been fine but we couldnt risk continuing.
This full-day trekking along one of the typical Madeira canals called levada, will take you to the major peaks of Madeira, and give you a complete perception of how beautiful the island is.
The levada begins at Miradouro do Picarouto in Santana, continues towards Achada do Teixeira, known for its rock formations such as basalt stone, ascends to the highest peak, Pico Ruivo, and concludes at Achada do Teixeira.
This route offers a diverse experience, combining both forest and mountain hiking for 9.5 km.
