Att göra – Jerónimos-klostret
Jerónimos-klostret ligger i stadsdelen Belém, väster om Lissabons centrum. Det är en av de viktigaste turistattraktionerna i Lissabon, inuti vilken ligger Vasco de Gamas grav.
Klostret, även kallat Hieronymites-klostret, ligger tillsammans med Belémtornet, en av de mest besökta platserna i Lissabon. Den utsågs till UNESCO:s världsarv 1983. Den religiösa byggnaden ritades av den portugisiska arkitekten Diogo de Boitaca för att fira återkomsten av Vasco da Gama från Indien. Konstruktionen började den 6 januari 1501 och var inte klar förrän på sjuttonhundratalet. Byggnaden är övervägande manuell stil (portugisisk sengotik). Märkligt nog byggdes klostret på platsen för det tidigare Ermida do Restelo, kapellet där Vasco da Gama och resten av sjömännen bad innan de seglade från den afrikanska kusten till Indien.
I omgivningen finns många kända attraktioner att inte missa, till exempel Tower of Belém, Monument of Discoveries (Padrão dos Descobrimentos) Maritime Museum, National Coach Museum och Cultural Center of Belém.
