Beskrivning

Kanarierna kallar La Palma för "la isla bonita" - den vackra ön - vilket är en riktig komplimang. Den är så förtrollande att Rudi, en av våra guider, bestämde sig för att göra den till sitt hem för 40 år sedan. "Jag älskar att göra den här utflykten", säger han. "Den visar öns förflutna och nutid - från ett av världens största observatorier till Tajogaite, Europas yngsta vulkan. Dessutom får du upptäcka underverk som Roque de los Muchachos och den uråldriga Caldera de Taburiente.

Ditt äventyr börjar när du tar dig upp på den 2 500 meter höga Roque de los Muchachos - La Palmas högsta topp - och passerar det kupolformade astronomiska observatoriet på vägen. På toppen kan du njuta av utsikten över den 8 km breda Caldera de Taburiente, öns enda nationalpark. Denna enorma skål omges av molniga toppar och är full av tallskogar och vattenfall. Din guide berättar om parkens historia och hur ditt besök hjälper till att bevara dess ekosystem.

Därefter går färden vidare till Puntagorda - en av de vackraste byarna på Kanarieöarna. Den ligger inbäddad mellan två raviner och har rader av tallar och mandelträd längs kullerstensgator med vidsträckt utsikt över Atlanten. Här har du lite tid över för att ta en titt på den veckovisa bondemarknaden, med stånd som säljer lokala produkter och hantverk. Vid utsiktspunkten El Time har man en fantastisk utsikt över Angustias-klyftan. Vi tar oss också till utsiktsplatsen Tajuya, där du kan se de ärrade, infernoliknande sluttningarna av Tajogaite vulkaniska kon, som bildades efter ett utbrott hösten 2021.

Tour of Northern La Palma with Roque de los Muchachos

Canarians call La Palma ‘la isla bonita' – the beautiful island – which is quite the compliment. It's so enchanting that Rudi, one of our guides, decided to make it his home 40 years ago. ‘I love doing this tour,' he says. ‘It shows you the island's past and present – from one of the world's biggest observatories to Tajogaite, Europe's newest volcano.' Plus, you'll discover wonders such as Roque de los Muchachos and the primeval Caldera de Taburiente.Your adventure kicks off as you venture up the 2,500m-high Roque de los Muchachos – La Palma's highest peak – passing the domed astronomical observatory on the way. At the top, take in the views over the 8km-wide Caldera de Taburiente, the island's only national park. Ringed by cloud-bursting peaks, this immense bowl is thick with pine forests and waterfalls. Your guide will fill you in on the park's history and how your visit will help conserve its ecosystems.Next, it's on to Puntagorda – arguably one of the prettiest villages in the Canaries. Nestled between two ravines, rows of pine and almond trees flank cobbled streets that enjoy sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean. Here, you'll have some time to have a poke around the weekly farmer's market, with stalls dedicated to local produce and handicrafts. At El Time viewpoint, there are heart-pounding views over the Angustias gorge. On the 19th of September 2021 a new volcanic crater was formed near La Palma. The volcano previously known as Cumbre Vieja erupted, completely changing the landscape west of the city. Hiking 5km on the newly christened Tajogaite - cracked mountain - you'll almost reach the crater. From here, awesome views of the lava flows and the Aridane Valley open up.
