Beskrivning

Att promenera genom Nessebar är kanske den mest kulturellt berikande upplevelsen på Bulgariens Svartahavskust. Denna udde, känd som ”Svarta havets pärla”, är bara något större än Vatikanstaten, men har många fler kyrkor. Ivaylo, en av våra kunniga lokalguider, säger: "Nessebar är ett levande museum - här finns monument som byggdes så långt tillbaka som på 500-talet. På grund av sitt strategiska läge har staden alltid varit en livlig handelsplats. Det är därför det var här, för över 2 500 år sedan, som pengar uppfanns och först användes för handel.

Du börjar med en guidad rundtur i gamla stan, som ligger på en smal halvö som skjuter ut i Svarta havet. Historiker vet att det har funnits en stad här i 3 200 år, vilket gör den till en av Europas äldsta. Det finns så mycket historia i gamla stan att Nessebar finns med på Unescos världsarvslista. Här har man grävt fram lämningar från det andra årtusendet f.Kr. och från den klassiska antiken och medeltiden. Det finns bevis här som återspeglar den arkitektoniska utvecklingen i hela Balkan och östra Medelhavsområdet.

Slingrande gator och gränder kantade av karaktäristiska timmerhus leder dig till mer än 40 kyrkor med anor ända tillbaka till bysantinsk tid. Det finns också lite ledig tid att utforska staden på egen hand, njuta av landskapet på en strandpromenad eller leta efter souvenirer.

You'll find the ancient city of Nessebar on a rocky peninsula jutting into the Black Sea. Sozopol Guided Tour by Fast Ferry

Bulgaria's Black Sea coast is a treasure trove of ancient towns, historic cities and natural scenery. With so many places to see, this trip to Sozopol by fast ferry is just the ticket. Departing from Nessebar, the ferry whisks you to explore ancient Sozopol. It's an early start as we head by bus to the harbour at Nessebar to board the ferry. After an hour's cruise on the high-speed passenger catamaran Seacat One you'll be docking in Sozopol.
