Från lokala kvalitetsprodukter till vykortsköna stränder, västra Kreta har allt. Denna heldagstur visar upp områdets bästa bitar, med vinprovning på Karavitakis Winery, provsmakning av ekologisk olivolja på Biolea Estate och avkoppling på Falassarna-stranden. Vasso, en av våra kunniga lokala guider, säger: "Detta är en av mina favoritutflykter, eftersom det ger en god smak av många aspekter av kretensiska landskap, livsstil och monument. Du får besöka en olivoljafabrik och en vingård som producerar några av de bästa vinerna på Kreta.

Dagen börjar med en guidad rundtur i den familjeägda vingården Karavitakis. Gläd dina smaklökar genom att provsmaka lokalt vin och läckra tilltugg på det toppmoderna besökscentret. Därefter åker du till en traditionell kretensisk restaurang vid havet för lunch, där maten tillagas med lokala råvaror. Dessutom får du tid att koppla av på den gyllene sanden på den underbara stranden Falassarna, som enligt Vasso ”har utsetts till en av Europas bästa stränder flera gånger”.

Därefter åker du till Biolea Estate, en familjeägd olivoljefabrik som specialiserar sig på hantverksmässig produktion av ekologisk olivolja. Här får du lära dig allt du behöver veta om olivoljeproduktion, från hur oliverna odlas till hur oljan pressas och tappas på flaska. Dessutom bidrar ditt besök till ett lokalt företag och hjälper ekonomin på ön i stort.

Hade förväntat oss att spendera mer tid på vin odlingen (vintestning) och framförallt olivodlingen. Att sitta i en buss så länge för att titta på en kort video och testa 2 olivoljor var inte alls vad vi tänkt. Lunchen hade man även kunnat korta ner ordentligt för att ge mer tid på t.ex olivodlingen. Hade önskat att det fanns en mer utförlig beskrivning på utflykterna. Samt ge en hint om tiderna man kommer spendera på de olika stoppen.

Tiden var för kort på Fallasostranden. Vi hann knappt ta ett bad innan avresa. Guiden på olivfirman hade ingen mic så det var svårt att höra informationen Resan varade längre än den uppgivna tiden

Hade bokat med svensk guide men det var en grekisk tjej som bara pratade engelska. Dock förstod vi henne ganska bra men där var andra som hade det kämpigt med språket. Lite forcerat, klostret kunde man enligt oss skippat och haft mer tid på stranden istället.

Vi hade beställt guidning på svenska. Den skedde på engelska som var svår att förstå. En stor del av gästerna var seniorer, de jag pratade med var missnöjda. Så ock vi. Inte värt pengarna. Stop vid kyrkan bra, vinprovning bra. Badet helt onödigt. Onödigt lång dag! Besviken!

Full-day Crete wine-tasting and 4x4 off-road tour

This full-day guided tour is all about getting to grips with a few of Crete's most popular local products, olive oil and wine. You'll learn how both are made, and you'll get to sample some for yourself, all while travelling between stops in the back of a 4x4. Ioannis, one of our expert local guides says “in my opinion, there's no better way to understand the culture of a destination than by meeting the people who make local produce. They know the area better than anyone, and the produce is a reflection of the culture.”You'll kick things off at the Terra Creta Olive Mill. Here, you'll see how olives are turned into oil before a tasting session. Then, you'll be welcomed into a boutique winery for a tour of the grounds and, of course, to sample the wines produced here. You'll learn about the different grape varieties, including some experimental wines made from rare grapes. Next, you'll continue to the village of Ano Vouves, home to an ancient olive tree – it's thought to be between 2,000 and 4,000 years old, but it still produces olives to this day.Afterwards, you'll set off on an off-road adventure in a 4x4 towards the mountain village of Sebronas. As you zoom through the gorge, you'll see pretty chapels, vineyards and olive groves – and you'll have time to snap a few photos along the way. Then, once you've worked up your appetite, you'll stop for lunch at a small village tavern, where you'll tuck into some traditional dishes.
