Ting at foretage sig på Katedralen i Siena
Sienas Domkirke, også kendt som ’Duomo di Siena’ er en middelalderlig romersk-katolsk kirke først bygget mellem år 1215 og 1263 på stedet for en tidligere eksisterende struktur. Det er en smuk og imponerende bygning med de ydre vægge lavet i hvid og grøn-sort marmor med en tilføjelse af rød marmor på facaden. Indersiden af bygningen er lavet af et meget lignende materiale, og kirkens grundplan er et latinsk korsplan med en kuppel og et 76m højt klokketårn, der blev bygget og færdiggjort i år 1313.
Duomo di Siena er et af de bedste eksempler på italiensk romersk-gotisk arkitektur i en katedral, og det siges, at den store komponist Richard Wagner blev rørt til tårer ved synet af Katedralen i Siena for første gang.
